In lead came work, fit matters differently because the glass sits inside came channels, but large gaps still affect the build.
For copper foil, edges should be clean and dry before foil is applied. Overly dusty, oily, or rough edges can make foil adhesion more frustrating. For kiln work, coldworked or ground surfaces can hold residue and need careful cleaning before firing.

Scrap practice is not wasted time. It is cheaper than learning every lesson inside a panel you care about. A short practice path gives your hand a chance to learn pressure, support, sound, and timing without the extra emotion of a finished design.
Start with straight strips. Then cut rectangles and squares. Move into gentle curves, repeated pattern pieces, and a small fit exercise with three or four pieces. Try one textured-glass test so you can feel how the surface changes the score. Then try one inside-curve challenge with relief cuts.
