The Murano Glass Museum was founded in 1861 after the revival of the island’s glass industry. Mayor Antonio Colleoni and Abbot Vincenzo Zanetti set up archives and a collection to map the history and life of Murano; the museum quickly grew as glass factories donated historic and contemporary pieces. Now part of the Venetian Civic Museums, it holds an extensive collection ranging from archaeological pieces to Renaissance masterpieces.
